I would like anyones advice please. I have a halfmoon king betta (hes pretty big) in a 5.5 gallon planted tank. He's been in this tank for a few weeks while I wait to upgrade him. Just today I addee a sponge filter and some new water. He jumped out of the tank and onto the carpet. I found him alive and put him back in his tank. I’ve had him since about march and hes never done this. He is barely swimming around, his fins are clamped completely and he has hair from the carpet stuck to him. It also looks like he has carpet burns on his side.

Is there anything I can do to give him a fighting chance?? I dont know how long he was out of the water for. Any help is appreciated.

Attached are pictures of him from 2 days ago vs now.

Do you have any Stress Coat or Stress Guard?

I have never used stress coat or stress guard so can’t say if aloevera is going to help.
My experience is with other species it 50/50 if they survive the next 24 hours . Once past that stage multiple small temperature matched conditioned water changes will keep the water clean enough to avoid possible infections on the dry skin.

No, I don't. I've tried to stay away from all chemicals unless a serious issue comes up. All I have is aquarium salt and herbtana.
A little bit of aquarium salt will agitate his slime coat and he will produce more slime and that can help the healing process.
I might wait until tomorrow to see how hes doing first.

Is he eating?

How often should I change it in a day?

I added a small dose of aquarium salt. I haven't tried feeding him yet, this just happened about an hour ago.

There are no hard and fast rules about this situation.
Changing 25% everyday would be enough in most tanks with just one fish in a 5.5 gallon. I don’t think you need do more than that daily but you will need to keep at it for a fortnight or more which is going to get boring or could be considered hard work?.
Having a bucket of conditioned water sitting beside the tank ready to go will allow you to scoop out a couple of plastic jugs full at random times.

Fingers crossed for the little guy.

To answer your question in another way. Should you be concerned about changing to much water and crashing the cycle etc. Don’t worry about that happening. From personal experience I have changed 40% of tank water 3 times on one day after waiting 4 hours . And regularly change 40% 3 times a week.

Okay thank you for your help! I’ll make sure to keep up with it. He’s one of my favorite bettas I’ve ever had :(. But he seems to already be perking up a bit. He ate and he swam around for about 10 minutes, which pulled a lot of the film that was hanging off of him. I’m hoping he pulls through!!

Thats a good sign! Just keep his water fresh.
