Platys Constantly Hiding Help ??

Hi, I recently bought two platys. One is sunburst Mickey mouse and one red wagtail, but since I put them in a new 10 gallon tank they have just been hiding in the back and in the plants all the time. I'm afraid they will starve because they don't even notice when I put food in the tank. Please help. Sorry I don't have that much information, this is one of my first big fish tanks.

(They are both males and there is another male Black Molly in there with them)

New tank? Filter, heater?

Most likely it is not cycled and you have ammonia/nitrites... I would get a test kit and start monitoring the water parameters...

Yes it is a new tank, I haven't hooked up the heater yet though

I used a test strip and it says I have nitrites, how do I get rid of them?

Your minimum water temperature should be 21, maximum 25 for Platys, so you should really have your heater working and that may well bring the fish to life as if its too cold they can be a little lethargic and dormant. The Molly is recommended to be in water 25 to 28 degrees. So you might need to rethink your species mix.

Cycling the tank ideally should be done before the fish are added and can take almost 2 months in some cases, having the fish in the tank can extend that time.

Well I guess I could hook up the heater thank you but I don't have any other tanks so what do I do how do I move the molly?

Set the heater for 25 which is the top end for the Platy and bottom end for the Molly and you should be OK, it will take time for the heat to get right through the water but the fish will probably wake up once it does
