Platy X Swordtail 10 Gallon Tank?

In my 10 gallon tank, I have 2 platies, a male and a female. Well the male is getting kinda feisty now (like in my other thread), so I'm going to get more females. I learned that platies and swordtails can crossbreed so can they satisfy the 1 male~3 female requirement? I have a baby tank for the fry :]
If they swordtails just go off and stay clear of the male and he continues to swim with the other platy only, then it would still be a problem for her, so I just wanted to make sure
I'm thinking 1 male platy 1 female
and 2 female swordtails
with a mystery snail in a planted aquarium :]

also tell me about your guys' experience too :]

Swordtails get bigger than platys. They're not usually recommended even in a 20 gallon tank (sometimes you can do them in a 20 long, but not many). I'd stick with female platys if you need more females.

Swordtails can get huge, I've seen several females at three inches or more with inch or more thick bodies which is way too large to house in a 10 gallon, platy females stay smaller, which fits your aquarium better. Your fry tank needs to be big to handle 30 or so fry every month, do you have a rehoming plan for the babies once they have grown?

Thanks guys! I might just get different colored platies if the swordtail size is too big

Yeah, I'd avoid swordtails. How about a bumblebee platy? They're pretty cute!

I'm going this friday to get more plants and the platies/snail I'll keep my eyes open for one of them :]

Ohh I have to give some away, hopefully the lfs can take some more because with 2~3 females, I'll be overrun lol

If the lfs can't take at least 20-30 then I might have to cut back on a female, let nature do its unfortunate parently duties, or consider a new stocking
If I got 1 male, 2 females, do you guys think I could stock something else (with/out my snail)

I agree, no swordtails in a 10g.

I would not considering the adults will get tired of eating the babies, which will over stock a smaller tank.

Remember you have to have space in your tank for the 20-30 platy fry/young platies until they are big enough to rehome, the LFS won't take them immediately as soon as they're born. I think you should just rehome the female.

No but you could do this
1 male platy
8 CPD
1 snail
5 amano shrimp
5 ghost shrimp

OR

2 male platies
1 male guppy or endler
1 snail
5 amano shrimp
5 ghost shrimp
