Hello,
TLDR; I have 2 platys and 6 neon tetra. Only 1 platy had dropsy and was wondering if anyone has any other advice on setting up a quarantine tank? I only have a 1 gallon tank available for quarantine. I am treating with Imaginarium bacterial infection remedy and Epson salt bath. Should I try a parasitic treatment as well?
Currently 1 of my platys has dropsy. I suspect adding a new platy to replace the other that died of a fungal/bacterial infection might have triggered a stress response. For the last 4 days I have been treating him with a 10 minute Epson salt bath in a 1 gallon tank (1 tablespoon Epson salt per 1 US gallon water) and using Imaginarium bacterial infection remedy. At first this seemed to be helping. He was a little less bloated, more energetic, and even ate some food yesterday. Today I noticed the bloating is a little worse and has more pineconing happening.
Would it be more suitable to move him to a quarantine tank? I only have the 1 gallon tank available and cannot get another bigger one. If I move him to the 1 gallon tank should use 1 teaspoon per gallon because it will be a prolonged exposure (at least 10 days)?
None of my other fish are showing any symptoms of dropsy. Though the new platy I have has a small bump/growth? right under her mouth that seems to bother her. I’m not sure what it is or if I should be worried about it. The pictures are of the female fish with the small growth looking thing (the arrow points to it). I could not get a good picture of the other fish that has dropsy.
Thank you for any responses!
