Platy With “body Slime”

I have had a platy for about 6 months since the start of my tank and everything is doing great, the tank is cycled. About a month ago I noticed that one of my platys had this white fungus type looking stuff growing on her side it’s still there to this day. She is acting fine otherwise, eating and interactive. I have given salt baths twice before with apI aquarium salt which had seemed to help slightly.

Temp: 75-76 (23-24)
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: <5
Gh: 13
Kh:7
Two filters running with combined capasity of 95 gallons
Water changes weekly 20% gravel vacuum
All tank mates peaceful community.
Tank is 38 gallons

Feeding :
-Frozen brine shrimp enriched with sprilluina
-freshwater safe nori
-occasional live misquote larve
- occasional apI tropical flakes

I have no idea what this could be and web serches haven’t really helped me I have melafix, parasite guard (it would kill my shrimp though) super ich cure (has malachite green) and aquarium salt (planted tank)

So my question is what is it? Is it harmful? And how do I treat it if it is harmful or contagious? Thanks!

 

The sudden appearance of a white patch on the side of a fish is usually not good. Often times, it's a symptom of Columnaris, a very lethal bacteria. Columnaris spreads & kills quickly so likely can elimiate that possibility. IMO, a minor abrasion, with a fungus attached to the damaged tissue, or maybe a slime coat problem is more likely. I'd just concentrate on keeping the tank pristine, and maybe continue using the Melafix as an antiseptic.

 

Got a better picture and dosed with melafix. Is columnaris usually fast acting? She’s had this for about a month and no other fish has shown symptoms. It looks like it might just be a bald spot of missing scales. Not sure exactly.

 

Yes, Columnaris is usually a quick killer. It sounds like the problem is not life threatening and you are on the right track with your treatment.

 

If you’ve seen my other post you will know that Becky’s tank mate Britany died, she looked like she was covered in ich or some kind of white string. Not really fungal looking however I haven’t seen anything like it. I have her a salt bath and treated with ich meds. She died shortly after. Another fish my female pearl gourmaI passed the next day. Fish are dying in my tank and I am unsure of the reason. Ironically Becky is still alive; however, she is breathing quickly with inflamed gills and looks bloated. I ordered kanaplex. I have shrimp and snails but from the reviews people have treated without issues . My tank is also heavily planted so I pray it won’t effect them. Is there anything I can do in the mean time? She’s my last platy and I have grown really attached to her ( tank information is all in my other post)

 

Becky is still alive but getting worse. She now gasps at the surface and her gills look inflamed. She swims, but not actively or near the bottom on the tank.

I had issues with fish death but I treated with kanaplex and things have been quiet since. This was in March 4th.
