I have a platy female that has been being chased by the male platy the last few weeks. Now she is in the corner of the tank behind the castle and at the bottom of the tank. She is moving her fins and moves around not very often. This has been going on for 4 days. At first the male Platy was right by her always around and the other fish (4 tetras) were close to her. Now the tetras have left her alone and the male platy is moving around the tank more, but still goes over by her alot. Is she pregnant?

    welcome to fishlore!!!!!!

how old is the tank? what are your readings for ammonia, nitrites, and ntirates?

even if she is pregnant, which probably is the case with a male around, she shouldnt seclude herself for long periods of time..if she is ready to birth, she will get really squared off around her belly area and not rounded...usually with livebearers, its recommended 1m to 3-4f so just the lone one wont get harrassed by the male....

after you post your tank specs and water readings, we might be able to help more...

well its hard to tell if shes sick or not without testing her water :( do you have a test kit? it could be a mini cycle that is hurting her but without the readings, cant be sure...

api makes a great kit ...called api liquid master test has everything you need and can do 100s of tests for you...also if you can find some prime water conditioner, that will help her feel better with daily partial water changes until you know for sure what your parimeters are...good luck with her!!!!!!

from my experience she is prego. your probably going to need to get another female or the male will be allllll over her...everwhere. ive even heard of males on a 1:1 ratio with females litterally exausing the female by chasing them to much that they do get sick and die (but that may be hearsay) or that may be the problem. you'll start to know a bit more when/if she starts to get really fat, then forsure yes shes going to have some fry, but that could be a while. also keep your eye out for other things like if shes still eating ext. if thats not normal then shes probably sick seeing as platies are stomachs with fins. good luck,
