Platy pregnant? How soon will fry come?

I'm sure it's female. My yellow platy has been chasing her, but I'm not sure of its gender. I just got my platy a few days ago.

She got bigger between today and yesterday. Should I out her in a breeder net?

The platy looks like a female also it is pregnant but the time is yet to come to box off the belly. Also don't use the breeder box , it may stress her and abort the fry.Provide plenty of plants so that the fries can hide.
Let's follow the natures rule or else your tank will get overstocked.

That picture is very blurry, does the analfin (last bottom one before tail) fan out or look more like a rod? If it is fanned out it is female, if you got it from a store it is most likely pregnant (as most places don't separate them and the places they get them from mass raise them most of the time).

It looks more like a rod, but my red one has been pestering it, so maybe it has a fan that got bitten at.

Males will pester males, is there a dark area in the back of its stomach? (This is normally an indication of babies, also known as a gravid spot.)

Yes, I do believe so.

Then it is likely you have a female, and she is pregnant.
Is there any chance you could get a clearer picture of her? Just to make sure.

Well, I just turned off the light for nighttime, and she/he I'd hiding anyway with her male platy friend. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.

is she close to having her babies?

Hard to tell from those pics. Plus they are huge. If you look at her from the side and she looks really squared off along the bottom of her belly then she's getting close. But just like humans, you can't say for sure when labor will happen and babies be born.

Ok. Thanks for your help. My parameters are off, so I think she's holding them until the environment is to her liking.

Mine had babies again last night too! I just happened to catch one in the big tank and moved her to the Breeder. Woke up to a breeder full of tiny babies! I think a large water change may have triggered labor since it was only 3 weeks since the last drop.

Thanks! I'm actually starting to think the momma could be my molly instead. I've caught 9 babies so far. My 2 females are still quite plump, so I might get even more! Neither can stand a netting, so I'm reduced to fishing the babies out of the tank when I see them. The 9 fry are currently in a breeder net inside their own fry tank because they're so small! Theyve started eating powdered flake food and pooping! They're all whitish yellow with beautiful white eyes.

After some days feed them proteinecious food such as chopped blood worms. It will help them to grow faster.

I don't have blood worms. Can I do freeze-dried brine shrimp?

Do you have any shrimp or krill? One "fry starter" food I bought was ground krill. I just grind my own food now. I also usually feed the newborn fry live banana worms because they are a perfect first food for fry. Super tiny and nutritious! Also, I find it easy to suck up fry in a large baster for transfer. Less trauma from netting. I've found a couple from this batch in the community tank hiding by the heater and filter tubes.

Here are my latest batch.
