Platy In 3g?

Hey guys, please bear with me as I don't know much about platys.

I have a 3G nano that I'm breeding shrimp in. My friend wants to give me one of his platys since his population exploded (livebearers smh). Could I keep a male platy safely in a 3G with the shrimp? I understand 3G is not ideal, but it is the best I can do as the owner of the house does not want large aquariums.

Thank you in advance.

No. They are very active. It is likely they’d be stressed, immune system would be lowered and then you’re stuck with disease. 10G for Platys is pushing it (IMO).

I would suggest you don’t take on your friend’s problem. Platys are popular so he could likely advertise online free fish and get rid of them that way. He should also keep only one sex if he can’t deal with them.

Could you? YES
Should you? NO

Platies are medium to high bioload fish.
If you decide to do it, be prepared for very frequent water changes in order to keep your tank healthy.

To do something simply because you can is...

Okay, thanks guys! I just was checking.

The guy is super nice, and it's not that he can't deal with them, he is just happy to have a friend that is also into aquariums. The platys are happily living in a 59g bowfront at his place.

Thank you for checking into this before you took the fish.
