so unfourtunatly one of my platys has come down with ich. I notice little white dots on her today and put her in a vase because I don’t have a quarenteen tank. I have aquarium salt, melafix, and apI general cure. What is the best treatment? There is no filter in the vase, however I can do small daily water changes with the 38 gallon tank she came from. Advice?

You'll have to treat your whole tank with an ich medication, anything like rid ich, ich-x, anything that contains malachite green, or victoria green and another ingredient like formalin or acriflavine.

Ich is in your tank water not just on your fish, so it's on everything right now pretty much.

You'll be better off putting your platy back in the big tank and treating the whole thing.

One ich dot means thousands of ich babies, so unfortunately she didn't just 'come down with ich'
They had it in their tank about a week if not longer and it's just now progressing.

Hope it gets there soon and you can get to work!
I had reallllly bad ich, I was super scared I was going to lose all my fish, and I did lose half... So sad...
This guy my pleco, so many people said with ich that bad he probably wouldn't make it, he trusted me though, let me quarantine him and get some of the ich off using salt baths and a slight rub.
It could have been dangerous and hurt him, but he was so calm, I used a pencap with cotton in it because it has a little hole in it, so it grabbed the ich off of him.

I then wiped it away from him and continued.
I never pushed too hard, and only did a few spots, and only did this once, as I know something as intensive as that could have very well killed him too.
I can't stress how gentle I was though, you don't want to push, just wipe something kver the body.

But at your stage there is no need to do this, it's pretty early so treatment will happen quick, and be sure to treat at least 2-3 days after the ich is gone, sometimes longer.

I've dealt with ich a few different times, seems almost every time I get a new fish, I get ich.
Very sad.

Some stores suppliers are sending out ill fish, so not only is it customer loss, but their own profit loss as well, losing their own fish and replacing customers.

I'm sorry, glad your Pleco is ok now. I just hope that none of my panda Cory’s get it. They seem to be very sensitive. Septicemia killed out 4 out of 6 a few months ago. Now I am terrified for them. Your Pleco looked much worse than my platy does now. Hope it’s early enough to get rid of.

Definitely early enough, I had brought home another pleco who happened to develop two small spots of ich, I had a bit of treatment left so I half dosed, because cories often require only a half dose of meds because they're scaleless and sensitive to medications, I lost two false juliI to the heat treatment.

the next day there was another small dot, but a big one was gone, so I knew it had started to work.
I wasn't able to get another good treatment til the next day, so I had to do a big water change and treated with petcos brand of parasite remedy, they say it's herbal, I found the ingredients once.
Now, today is the last day of treatment, so I will treat once more after a water change.

It's been 6 days, and the ich disappeared on day two, but another fish I purchased ended up having ich upon arrival, so they were added to the treatment tank, and the treatment was lengthened to ensure the fish would be cured too.

I will now have to clean all my equipment really well to be sure I don't spread the disease to any other tank.

I discovered a few ich spots on some of my new fish yesterday. Luckily there are only about 3 spots on each fish. Since I caught it early enough I am going with the aquarium salt and high heat method of treatment. But with the comment above about fish stores selling sick fish, I went to the store to exchange one who unfortunately got stuck to the filter I let and I didn't catch it in time. But the others in the same tank have started to develop ich also l.
