Platy Dilemma

Recently I decided to purchase Platy fish for my 10 gallon tank and I planned on buying 3 males to avoid fry and other problems. Well Petsmart gave me two males and one female even though I pointed out the ones I wanted, not that i'm blaming them but now I have to deal with this problem. At the moment, I have one male and female in the 10 gallon and the other male is isolated in a little one gallon tank. My question is what should I do about the little guy? I thought about buying a another female for the ten gallon so I have a 2:1 ratio of female to male, and if its okay to put the isolated male platy in my 5 gallon with my betta fish? I don't know what to do and I can't return any of the fish since it's been more than 14 days.

 

I wouldn’t suggest putting the Platy with your Betta, it would most likely be aggressive and possibly kill the Platy with that size of tank. I’d suggest getting more females. You could also go and ask the store if they would be willing to exchange the female for a male, even if it’s been more than 14 days they might still do it for you since it was a mistake on their part.

Okay I'll try exchanging them, also do you know which gender tends to be more aggressive?

 

For Platies, males can be aggressive when not in a good ratio to females. But in single sex schools, I don’t think either is substantially more aggressive.
