Platy Ate Too Much

I had a platy and guppy in my tank for about 6 months. I just added some plants and two corys to the tank. My water is currently 0 ammonia and 0 nitrates (just did a 50% wc and before the wc nitrates were at 10ppm).

Thing is, my platy gets way too much food with the corys in the tank. She eats at the top and then goes for the cory food. Even after lights out I catch her waking up and eating. It's been this way for three days now and she's gotten quite the belly. I plan on not feeding tomorrow and possibly not the next day as well, but after my wc today she's chilling in the top corner not moving around which ALWAYS means my fish is about to die. Besides fasting, does anyone think I could do something else to help her? Do you think it's something besides bloat stressing her out? She was very chill with the cory fish and plant additions. She picks at the plants a bit and chases the corys around, follows them around but typically leaves them alone too.

Edit: I did dip the java fern and java moss in h2o2 and then rinsed them off with tank water.

Salt baths can help with constipation and bloat I believe.

You should try sinking pellets for your corys, or sticking cucumber on a fork for them to enjoy. Anything she's unable to eat in one gulp is ideal.

Salt baths really? That is very good information thank you. I did get sinking algae wafers, which she sadly loves and eats for hours chasing the corys and guppy away. The new sinking shrimp pellets she’s better with, she picks at them awhile and then leaves them alone so I’m hoping they work out!

Cories are mainly carnivorous, so she was probably enjoying the algae wafers way more than the Cories were! Cories really don't need much food, one shrimp pellet for each is plenty. That will cut down on the amount of food she can steal.

You can try a shelled pea cut into pieces to get things moving. Brine shrimp also has a mild laxative effect. Epsom Salt is also used for bloat, but I'm not sure on the exact method as I've never needed to use it myself. You'll have to look into that, or someone else could chime in with a method.

I hope she sorts herself out!

Yes, learned that after I bought the wafers (darn pet store doesn’t know anything). So now we have just frozen brine shrimp and shrimp pellets! Good to know they don’t need much food, I was worried they wouldn’t get enough.

I think I will try not feeding for two days and if that doesn’t sort it out, I’ll give a pea, and then last try the salt bath. She really, really hates being taken out of her tank. Good news is she has started moving slightly more (mostly just to chase the guppy lol).
