Ok,

He looks really fat, at first I thought it was a pregnant femail but after a few months I think it's just how he is built. Could that be the cause?

Ethan
SBD can be caused by various reasons. Didn't you just recently introduce this fish into you're tank? Is he still eating?

Hi,

I've had the fish for ages, I had a pair and a few months ago one died, my newest fish is my notho killifish. He eats like a pig. I try to underfeed rather that over feed.

Alright . Is there anything that could be bullying him? What are your water parameters.

Hi,

Peramiters are:

PH:7.6
Ammonia:0.ppm
Nitrite:0ppm
Nitrite:5.0ppm

As for bullies, there was a pair of bloodfin tetras in there and one took a chunk out of his tail. However that was a few months ago and they moved tanks straight after that. But apart from that he's not being picked on.

Have a 29 gallon fish tank full of platies and Cory cats one of my Pilates was acting completely normal last night and now today it seems like it wants to hide and just lay on the bottom of the tank while all the other fish swim around ?

Maybe it’s a bit stressed, or pregnant if it’s a female. Also, it can be exhausted, and just resting and taking a break from the school. Can you take a picture?

How often do you feed?

Is she pregnant? Sometimes they start hiding and acting weird before they give birth. Also is she gasping and being weird or just chilling down there?

Hi all I never got any replies before so last week my female platy was acting very weird, restless, swimming up and down the glass then stopped eating. She looked squared off so I assumed she was pregnant. The tank is 170 litres, has two fantails, two platy and five danio they've been together nearly two/three years. The tank is cycled with ammonia being 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 20 and pH around 7.8. She did this for a few days then went back to normal. Today she's starting acting like it again I tested my ammonia and nitrite because I haven't for a few weeks thinking maybe I've had a spike and not realised. But both are 0 and I'm not sure what is wrong with her! She seems to be hiding more during the day then acting restless at night pacing up and down, now I have been up later off a night recently watching netflix due to being in lockdown here in the uk so a little lamp has been on etc and I've been up until like 3am could this off stressed her out and be the problem?

The light is probably not the problem. Has she bred in your tank before? Sometimes livebearers will act weird right before giving birth, including not eating and hiding.

Okay thank you. My guess is yes she has several times I've noticed her become squared off and hiding more but I'm guessing because1 I have goldfish, 2 I don't put her in a breeders net and 3 theres not many hiding places I don't see babies. Would she of acted off last week to then be OK for a few days then starting again today? She just swam up and down the tank and is now sat resting on a fake plant

She probably decided not to have her babies last week after all because she couldn't find a good hiding place. Add something she can use to hide, like decorations or live plants, and she might pop the babies out.

I think this means she's about to give birth. Let me know if this continues more than a couple of days or if she doesn't drop fry.

I think I see some pineconing in that video. Am I mistaken? If that’s pineconing, then she’s in the late stages of dropsy, rather than about to give birth.

I think that's just the angle, but, if Sarah1230ox can get us a picture from the front or sides, we could know for sure.

Preferably from the top, that can make pineconing the most visible.

Butt in the air is good. Means she's definitely getting ready to drop fry. When she's done and comes out of hiding you can get the pics, but I don't think she has dropsy. A sick fish generally doesn't breed.

Thank you. Don't feel bad! I definitely think she was pregnant. Just one of those things unfortunately!
