Plastic Tub As Tank?

I have a 16 gallon plastic tub [fish safe, I checked]. If rigged with a filter and heater could it be used as a permanent tank? I have a few questions.
- will the heater melt the plastic?
- anything I should be careful of?
- other comments

It worked for me! When we moved across states we stayed with my in-laws for about a month. During that time I had our fish in a black Home-Depot tub. Did some diy filters and just laid my heater down flat in the bottom.

Okay, thanks! I'm worried about the durability of the plastic over time if being used as a permanent tank.

It will work! Especially with a tub that is longer - there should be no structural issues or bowing.

Heater will not melt plastic unless defective (and in that case you have bigger issues than that. Lol)

Thank you! So longer tubs are better. Would this tub, for example, have a higher risk of structural issues/bowing?

Higher risk, but unlikely if the plastic s good quality. If you're really worried double stack them inside each other.
