plastic tank. why they are not good?

hey fishlore why are plastic tanks not good. what are the disadvantages and advantages of a plastic tank.

Acrylic is lighter but it scratches easier than glass.

 

Acrylic tanks are 97% clearer then glasss, Acrylic is more fragile and can be easily scratched, they are a lot lighter then glass tanks.

 

Acrylic tanks are far lighter than glass. Like said before they scratch very easy. You must also use care in cleaning and use special pads for acrylic tanks. Pads for glass tanks will ruin an acrylic tank. If you use sand for a substrate cleaning must be done very carefully so as to not scratch the acrylic. The clearity looking thru acrylic is really clear as compared to glass. There are glass tanks available that have almost perfect clear glass with no distoration but they are very expensive way out of most peoples price range including mine.

 

I am not talking about acrylic tank. I am talking about the 5 - 10 gallon normal plastic tanks which is given as kiddie prizes

 

some plastics leach chemicals into the water, so you'd have to be careful what type of plastic it is.
Nevertheless, many of us use plastic bins as QT or betta tanks all the time, they just don't look as nice as the usual glass or acrylic
