I'm wanting to use plastic pot scrubbers for bio media in my sump. I've been checking my local dollar stores for the best deal. Dollar General has them 6 for $1 but it says right on the packaging "not for aquarium use". Other stores packaging doesn't mention anything about aquarium use but the deal isn't as good.

Has anybody ran into this before?

Should I stay away from the ones that specifically say "not for aquarium use"?

Any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

(This is my first post here so hopefully I didn't do anything wrong)

    Welcome to Fishlore!
I wouldn't use any plastics or ceramics in my tank not made for use in an aquarium. But that's me...

I would stay away from the plastic pot scrubbers since they say not safe for aquariums. Have you looked into using lava rock instead? Several members on here use lava rock for their bio media.

    Just started
I recently changed my 55g from HOB to a sump. I have about 22 plastic pot scrubbers along with lava rock, filter floss and filter sponge as media.

My dollor store was the same so I avoided them. I bought mine at Canadian Tire for about $2.50 for a pack of 6. I figured the extra few dollars was worth not having to worrie.

It's been about 6 weeks since I've changed over and everyone is happy and helthy
