40 Gallon Tank Plants without fish and filter?

Candace

I'll be setting up a 40g breeder soon for my current 20g long community to give myself room to breed mystery snails as well. As I'm setting it up I'm not planning on running a filter (since it'll be the 60g sponge filter from my 20 gallon). I will be planting the plants in glass pots filled with Flourite Dark substrate and dosing weekly to bi weekly with Seachem Flourish with low-medium light. I'll probably do two 25% water changes. Is there anything special I need to do in the couple of weeks I'll be waiting for everything to take root? I have cory's that decimate plants before they take root and a gourami that kills floaters before they have a chance to grow. Aside from the glass pots the tank will have a thin layer of sand to make my corys happy in their search for food.

Plant stock I'm planning on:
Salvinia Natans
Dwarf water lettuce
Pogostemon Stellatus "Octopus"
Moneywort
Water Sprite
Jungle Val
Guppy grass

Mudminnow

I don't think there is anything special you'll need to do while you wait for your plants to take root.
