Plants with Rhizomes

Hey guys,

As for plants with rhiszomes, do the rhizomes need to be exposed to light, or not? How do these plants process the energy from the light as opposed to stem plants?

Thank you!

Its the leaves that do most of the photosynthesis, however, anything green on the plant will do it, too. But, rhizomes are for propagation. They mainly just make the plant bigger, and being restricted, just as being buried, restricts that.

Yeah I understand they're for propagation but will it aid in the photosythesis or not? Will the plant actually do fine without the rhizome exposed to light?

Not enough to make a difference, I wouldn't think. I always shove the rhizomes of my Java fern into the driftwood, and they always do fine with out it getting light.

The Rhizomes are for anchoring the plant and propogation. They have no need for light. Mine are so thick they never see the light
