Plants Not Happy!

hello everyone!

I have a moderately planted 10 gallon tank, running since Aug 2018, plants added gradually since then.

I dose Thrive -1pump once to twice weekly. Osmocote diy root tabs for the amazon sword -I have added one at a time, the latest added Jan 13th.

The amazon sword has never really thrived, it’s oldest leaves always yellowing, but the new growth has always looked good. Today I noticed a couple newer leaves having brown-translucent areas.

My java fern doesn’t look very happy either, a leaf is starting to get brown, dry looking holes.

A few weeks ago, I switched from the hood/LEDs that came with the tank, to a glass top and the Nicrew plant light, 7500K.

My anacharis, and a similar stem plant (I am blanking on the name at the moment) are doing great, and my water lettuce I need to remove handfuls of almost daily it’s doing so well.

The tank is complete chaos, I know, with plants everywhere and absolutely no plan. One of these days I will make it beautiful and add some red plants for contrast too. For now the theme is ‘untamed jungle’

If anyone has suggestions, I would really appreciate it, thank you!!

How many hours do you have the light on? Try doing 2 pumps of thrive because that is supposed to be the dosage. Your anacharis and water lettuce could be using most of the nutrients.

Thank you Gourami36 ! The light is on a timer, 8-9 hours per day...4 hours, then a siesta, then 4-5 hours.

My Thrive bottle says 1pump (2ml) per 10 gallons 1-2 times per week. I will just make sure I always dose it twice weekly? That makes sense that the faster growers are using the nutrients.

The swords are heavy root feeders, right? Do I need to increase the amount of root tabs? Or frequency?

Thank you!

I thought 1 pump was 1ml? That’s what mine says. For my sword I just use one root tab but if there’s another plant near it that I should also a root feeder I add another root tab. I replace them every 2-3 months. Dosing it twice weekly might help.

Weird, mine says 1pump is two mls. It’s the 500ml bottle.

There are no other plants planted near it really, it’s my only root feeder.

I will ensure I dose Thrive twice weekly and see what happens.

Thank you!!

Good point. Then the plant will stop using nutrients to try to fix the dying leaves and can grow more.

Gourami36, are you using ThriveC? I have both Thrive and ThriveC. One pump of ThriveC is 1ml and one pump of Thrive is 2ml. The pumps are made different. See the photo below. ThriveC is on the right and Thrive on the left. LeticiaM

I had both before but I’m using thrive c right now. They both said 1 pump is 1 ml. Maybe they changed the bottle.

Thanks Sean Garland ! I will trim the brown java leaf for sure, if the damage on the Swords progresses I will trim them too.

Thanks for your input WadeEH for trying to troubleshoot the discrepancy in pump volume!

Thanks again everyone!! I would really love an amazing, aquascaped, healthy tank...seeing everyone’s beautiful tanks, I am so jealous!! You guys make it look so easy!!!
