Plants from a local ecosystem?

Lucyn

I've never taken plants from a local river/pond and tried using them in my Aquarium, as I live in Maine and the ecosystems vary intensely from where the fish I keep originate. The pond I took it from is extremely secluded and is loaded with fish, I could count hundreds just by the shores. I was curious if anyone else has taken some plants from their local respective areas and used them in aquariums? Any noticeable negatives, nightmare stories, or did it behave like every other plant? I put them in a 10 gallon tank for now to see how they do, I loaded it up with ferts, put some cycled bio-rings and some pellets to keep things cycled. My plan is if they start to thrive, I could get a fish for that QT tank and see if it's truly fish safe or not.

I've heard that wild plants are used to seasons, so in a home aquarium it can be difficult for them in certain months. Just make sure you sterilise them. Hope it works out.
