Plants for a betta tank?

I have a 5.5 gal aquarium (inherited from one of my kids) that I want to set up for a Betta. It will have a 10W CFL and a Whisper HOB filter (if it still works). What plants are suitable for a tank this small and are fairly easy to grow? If I am successful with this I would like to change to live plants in my other tank too!

Aponogenton bulbs do well, and are super easy. I have a few of these, and I love them. I also have Wisteria, Java Fern, Guppy Grass, Duckweek... The list goes on. Most plants you can buy for a decent price are suitable for any tank. I have a 13 watt CFL over my 5.5, and everything does well, even my Lily and Dwarf Hair Grass (which are higher demand plants).

Good afternoon,

Java Ferns, anubias, java moss are low light, easy to grow, (though slow growers) plants. Expect some die back once you add them to the aquarium, but they will make a come back.

Be warned on the Apon bulb plants.... They grow very fast and quite large as well. I have to trim them at least twice a week or they block the lighting. With that said, they do look very good, and I love the way they undulate in the current.
Best of luck with your planting,
Dale

There are different kinds, as well, that grow differently. I have three. One that fills out and is nice and bushy, one where the leaves surface like a Lily, and one that kind of buds off and makes baby plants right on the end of a stem. THe last one is my favorite Its luck, which ones you get, though. And where you buy them. I've bought mine from PetSmart, PetCo and WalMart.

My Betta has a pot of hair grass (height is pretty much to the top of the tank) that he loves swimming through and resting on.

Was planning on taking it out when I get my 20 gal up and running but I don't have the heart now!
