Plants for a 55 Long US Gallon?

I plan on going to my LFS today after I get home. I am curious about what plants I could purchase. I have 2 inches of Seachem Flourite in there right now. I have two Marineland LED Hoods on there. It is not the best lighting, so I was hoping I could get plants that did not need the best lighting. I plan on having a co2 system going later on, and better lighting. But for now. So does anyone have any ideas on some plants? (I am not sure if my LFS will have the plant that you mention, but they have a lot of options so hopefully)

Hello Co...

Anubias and Java fern are easy to grow and will tolerate most lighting conditions. I'd suggest going with these two for beginners.

Amazon swords are easy to raise and will grow faster and larger too.

+1 to all of the suggestions mentioned above. I'd also like to add aponogeton crispus or any aponogeton for that matter. Super easy to grow, even in a low tech setup. Within one week of planting the bulbs, the plants had already grown to the surface of my tank.

Out of all the anubias species, I'd say Anubias nana is by far my favorite. They grow big, dark green leaves that really stand out from the crowd.

Sounds like it's already been said, but +1 to Amazon Swords, Java Ferns, Anubias Nana.

I have a 55 gallon myself with low-med lighting and only Excel for CO2 currently, and I keep all three of the above plants. I'm also trying to do a Monte Carlo carpet, but it may turn into an exercise in desperately trying to keep them alive with Excel until I can buy a third light and invest in a CO2 system... haha

Heads up, Java Ferns won't do well planted in the substrate like that. Amazon Swords are a better option if you want to plant in the substrate. Java Ferns need to be tied to hardscape items. That driftwood in the middle is perfect. Tie the rhisomes directly to the driftwood with fishing line and after a month or two the plant should anchor itself by the roots and you can remove the fishing line.

Tank looks good though! Best of luck and keep posting pictures!

So in mine, I didn't really research what can go in, I just went to my lfs and bought what looked nice. Mine is a 40 gallon breeder.

I also have pool sand with organic potting soil in there. I have melon plant, parrot feather, cobomba (sp?), and I forgot the rest lol
