Plants dying off and Brown markings on glass

Hello,

I don't know if these two issues are related or not.

I have a 20L tank with 3 guppies. I also have 3 plants. One of the plant is going brown all over and looks like a lot of the plant is dying and breaking down, but there are a couple of new growth. I have 8W fluro lighting on from morning to night.

There are also brown markings building up in splodges on the tank glass. I have done a 25% water change and rubbed some of the marks off but they keep appearing.

Maybe it is best if I take a photo of the tank including the plants later.

Thanks

The brown is the diatoms, every new tank will go through it. Just leave it there and it'll disappear eventually.

For plant wise, do you know what plants you got? Low light, med light, high light?

Low light is 1-2 watt per gallon, Median, 2-3 and high is 3-4watt per gallon

If you have high or med. lightning plants you will need CO2 and correct lighting. Lighting that comes with the aquarium set will never work.

When did you plant these plants? Sometimes new plants will loose all their leaves when you first plant them because the leaves are used to being emersed, then when you plant them in your aquarium, the plant has to get used to it's leaves being submerged, so it looses the leaves to grow new ones. Sometimes the leaves it regrows will look quite different from the leaves it had when you bought it. It's just the difference between an emersed plant and a submersed plant.

+1 on posts above. If this is all new, it's most likely just diatoms and new plant acclimation. But if some of the leaves are completely dead and soft, cut them off the plant. Not good to let something rot in there. They should start looking better soon enough. The diatoms on the glass, and everywhere else sometimes, usually happens to new setups. I think supposedly from silicates in the glass. Usually only lasts a few weeks at the most.
