10 Gallon Tank Planting Ideas

Hi all! I just got my hands on a 10 gallon tank from a friend of mine and can't wait to set it up but was wondering which plants would look nice? It came with fake decor but I'd rather have live plants.

Currently I'm looking at duckweed, anubias, java moss, java ferns, and amazon swords, but if you have any other recommendations I would love to hear them. I'd prefer some low-tech plants!

I love my java ferns and java moss. Also, I have been kind of looking into amazon swords. We do have 1 tiny duckweed plant that we are trying to multiply but just a note that duckweed reproduces like crazy! Also, you could try moss balls, etc. :) Let us know how it turns out. ;)

Welcome to Fishlore! :)
Thinking an amazon sword might be too tall for a 10g. I have some in my 20g tall, and it's right to the top! I personally love anubias - beautiful, hardy plants and very easy to care for. Some Java Fern Windelov is also easy and adds some interesting texture.

Amazon swords will get too big for a 10 gallon pretty quickly. Java fern and anubius are easy and can be placed on top of decor for height. Java moss works on decor or as a carpet but it often comes with pest snails. You could do Amazon frogbit instead of duckweed as it is less invasive and easier to get rid of if you decide you don't want it. For most people duckweed reproduces so fast it can show up in tanks it wasn't even introduced to.

I'm a big fan of crypts. They're easy plants that look good, but aren't likely to get too large for a 10 gallon tank.

There are two easy to grow plans that are great for a 10 gallon tank besides the floating Fogbit
They are Hornwort and Anacharis
Both can grow floating but, if you plant the Anscharis it will put down roots

Hornwrort will not put down roots but, I have even "planted" it..... secured from floating by a small stone over its stem on the substrate.. If grows fine that way also. When it grows too high, you can just trim it and let the trimming float ....it you want to .

BTW, a great center piece plant for a ten gal.is a Crypt plant . :)
