Plant Filter In 20g Tall.

Jessica J

So we have 4 medium white ribbon plants and some hydrocorn as a filter. Do we every have to change the hydrocorn or plants? Or is it a forever filter as long as the plant is alive? And we would like to do our 10 gallon with a plant filter how would we cycle the plants and hydrocorn? Could we add a second filter to tank to let it cycle for a few weeks or can we add some of the hydrocorn from our 20 gallon filter to start the bacteria. Our 10 gallon is already up and running with a hob powder filter so don't want to lose our guppies to a filter mistake

You can transfer over your media, which in this case is hydrocorn, to the new tank's filter to "instantly" cycle it. You may experience a minI cycle so pay attention to your water chemistry and be prepared to do water changes. You don't need to replace plants, they'll suck up nitrogenous compounds as they continually grow.

Thanks that what we were thinking too. Just take 1/4 of the old media to the new filter and replace with the new media in old filter.
