Planning Out 29g

Recently I have been considering revamping my 29g. I’m unhappy with the current setup and fish.

So far, here is what I plan to do:
- Switch hood for glass lid
- Switch current light out for a light specifically made for plants (Thinking Finnex Planted+)
- Change substrate to a black gravel or substrate made for plants
- Find suitable piece of driftwood
- Eventually fill tank with plants

The current inhabitants of the tank are:
- 1 Angelfish
- 9 Rummynose Tetras
- 1 Bristlenose Pleco

What I’d be interested in changing the current fish out for:
(Option 1)
- Betta Sorority (LFS sells groups of already established females)
- Bristlenose Pleco
- Mystery or Nerite snails

(Option 2)
- 1 Female Betta
- 12 Harlequin Rasboras
- Bristlenose Pleco
- Mystery or Nerite snails
I’m always open to other options as well!! However, I would like a betta included somehow!

I’m hoping to start buying stuff for the tank soon. Definitely going to be tough to stay inside my budget

Are these just thoughts? Do you favor any ideas over the others?

As for suitable driftwood, I might be able to help .

Either works as long as the angel leaves. Angel shouldn't be there in the first place (once it becomes an adult). If that is a plain brown bn he (or she) will eventually be on the large size for a 29. My understanding is the lemons are a bit smaller but not sure that is factual. In my 29 i have 4 betta with a few swordtails (4ish - as they become adults i tend to give them to the lfs) and a gazillion guppies along with a few kuhli. Most of the guppies are young adults (mature (older) females are quite large but i give them away before they get that large). I have snails in my tank - do not discount thesize of mystery snails ( i hatched a few of the eggs and now have a collection of gold mystery) and nerite females are a pain as they will lay a gazillion eggs.

Same here!

I don't know anything about angels, but if the OP has an established tank already it should be fine.

Please parse:

I don't know about angels

It should be fine as long as the tank is established.

Wrong answer. I'm telling you a 29 is an unhealthy environment for an adult angel regardless if the tank is established or not. The tank is simply too small for a full grown angel long term.

I don't know anything about angels, but if the OP has an established tank already it should be fine.

Has anybody had experience with ordering from Coast Gem USA? They have a lot of good options betta wise and I would like to know if they’re reliable.
I’ve been thinking over the sorority idea and don’t know if I want to go through the worry of them beating each other up. What about just a male betta? Possibly with some tank mates? Or, I could even downgrade to a 20g (I don’t like the height of the 29g. Difficult for me to not only decorate but also to clean)

I haven't tried them. They're actually a couple hours away from me, but since I don't drive...
I've had males with tank mates. A 20 long is the same footprint as the 29 but shorter. I don't like the height either, but they were out of 20 longs when I got my 29.
