Planning Fish For New Tank

I just got my 120 gallon tank and I'll have all of the equipment for it soon. I'll run it without fish for a couple weeks to make sure conditions are optimal. After that I'll add several fish about every 2 weeks, quarantining the new ones in my 10 gallon during that interval. I have an idea of the type and numbers of fish that I want, but I'm very new to the hobby and I'll take first hand advice over generalizations that I've read. My current plan is to eventually have 6 angelfish, 10 Dalmatian mollies, 4 convict cichlids, and 5 pictus catfish. Are these fish safe together? Are they happy in those numbers? Is that too many for 120 gallons? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Pictus cats get big and eat anything that fits in their mouth, mollies are brackish fish although they can live in freshwater for some time, and I don't know about convict cichlids, I would rather put a couple of apistogramma cichlids rather than convicts, if you get long finned angels they could be a bit nippy, same with mollies. Perhaps you could do a South American themed tank, Have you considered adding live plants?

Pictus cats only grow to a MAX of 5 inches, and in general grow to less. I don't see how a Pictus cat would eat any of those fish (except the Molly fry)

I wouldn't keep Convicts with Angels, Convicts are known to take on fish bigger their size.

Personally, I would just go with the angels, some other American bottom dweller like Cory Cats and replace the convicts with a dwarf Cichlid as Tyler said.

Pictus cats are originally from Africa, They're better off living with African Cichlids.

If you want to see a big African Catfish, try searching up Synodontis Eupterus. I used to have one of these, they have a potential of growing over 1 foot, if kept with good care of course.

don't have 4 convicts. Especially males. Not only will they possibly fight your angels (because they are cichlids too, but each other. Convicts are not very nice fish. If you don't want a million fry (they breed like rabbits) I'd only get two females. They are much more tolerant of other fish

Thanks for the advice. I'll limit the convicts to two females tops.

Don't forget that your PH is important aswell I assume a basic PH would be alright for everything in your tank

I read more about the fish I'm interested in. The current plan is 6 angel fish, 6 pictus catfish, 2 female black convicts, one rainbow shark, and a number of Dalmatian mollies. 78 inches of mature fish, plus mollies. They have a common preferred pH of 7.0. As for hardness, I'm having trouble understanding this. Different sources give different information about it using several different units. How do I interpret this information?

I would go with some type of barb rather than molly although barbs can by nippy
