Slow build so nothing exciting anytime soon but I wanted to get some basic info started.

Hopefully going to be building a stand and hood for my 75G that was gifted to me.

A "good" stand at my LFS was about $280. Deep Blue was the brand. The only one I could find like the manager described is but is for a 150G.

Looking to use some 2x4's and plywood. I'd like to incorporate the stand into the hood to hide any of the wires and plumbing. Hood support would be minimum 1x2, possibly 2x2. Something like THIS.

I'm not sure yet if I should do 1/2" or 5/8" plywood. This would be to finish the stand and hood. Once assembled, it would be painted or stained black to match other furniture in the room.

Plywood-
Studs-
Hinges for hood- (may change)
Hinges for doors- (probably change)

Once I figure out build cost, I'll see how it compares to the pre-fab. I'm hoping for ~30% less cost including hood.

Current state of tank.. all alone...

Your linked images won't load for me, but wouldn't it be easier (and probably more attractive) to just buy a glass top for the tank and build the stand?
