Pictures of male vs female Honey Gourami?

G'day all,
One of my LFS' has a tank full of Honey Gourami in at the moment (along with Chocolates, Moonlights and another we rarely see over here). I've been chasing a male/female pair of Honeys but had no luck so far. There appears to be two in this tank of Honeys (labelled 'Red Honey') which look slightly different to the rest, much paler in colour, dorsal fins are white (as opposed to orange) and appear to be slightly rounder at the tip than the more 'sharp' looking, bright coloured fish.

From the little I know about Gouramis, I could assume they're female, but, since this store has a strict no-returns policy, I want to make sure I get it right. So I'm wondering if anyone could share pictures of their (young) male and female Honey Gouramis to see if I know what I'm looking for?

Thanks, much appreciated!!

Hi,

I'm pretty sure it's the same way to tell as with the regulars. Good luck! I hope you can find a pair and get some fry!

Thanks for those links, I think I pretty successfully managed to differentiate them at the LFS today. I went to my favourite, with very knowledgeable staff, who confirmed my (mildly educated) guess. Surprisingly, they actually had mostly females in the tank I was looking at.

Glad to know you found some! I can't ever find females of any gourami kind at my LFS... Post some pictures of the pair!

I actually ended up getting three, figuring that, a) I will be upgrading that tank soon, and b) who knows when I'll next find females!

Here's a group shot, I'll get some individual photos to confirm their sexes later when the lights come on.

They are beautiful and so is your tank! I'm going to have to get some. What size tank is that? Do you plan on breeding them? Good luck with your fish!

Thank you, it's a 100L (29g) tank. I've got no plans to breed them, but who knows, I'm happy to just see what happens.
