Phantom tetra

hi i recently got some phantom tetra from my lfs , ive noticed today one is really black compared to the others is there something wrong with him? Thanks

No, it is just coloration differences.

 

No he was grey like the others in the pic so thought I'd ask

Yeah, if he was already like that in the store he was just born with that coloration.

 

Sometimes my black skirts are darker than they normally are and sometime lighter than normal. I really don't think it is something to be concerned about. Lots of fish tend to be able to lighten and darken their color. Often a stressed fish can lose some color. Once it get more comfortable it colors right back up.

 

That's a male. The ones with red in the analfin are females.

 

You could try switching the gravel and decorations to something less colorful. I heard bright neon colors are not good for them or something.

I suspected that was the case and maybe he darkens up even more when feeling frisky

 

To be honest, that male looks a little beat up. He should have a much longer dorsal fin.
