Ph vs. High Range Ph

Ok so I’m new to this but I’ve been doing so much research for the past two weeks and I’ve learned so much. The only thing that is confusing me is when I’m looking at my test results using my API freshwater master test kit. There’s a pH test and then a high range pH test? When I use the pH test my reading is above 7.6. Then I go to the high range pH which it says I should use if I have invertebrates? What is the difference between the two and should my readings still be 7.0?

PH tests for if your pH is between 6 and 7.6. And high pH tests for if your pH is higher than the normal pH test can read, between 7.4 and 8.8. That's all there is to it. Your pH doesn't have to be 7. As long as its stable and not too extreme, all is good.

So if you get 7.6 on the normal pH test, use the high one to see where it actually is. As it could be higher than the normal test can read.

I get that but it was 7.6 on the regular PH test and 7.4 on the high range? Does that mean that ballpark I am around 7.5 pH?

Yes, split the difference. 7.5.
