African rift lakes have a very few plants native. I have a lake tanganyika tank myself, as a biotope, and it has two plants: Italian Val (val spiralis) and riccia fluitans.

They are the only plants native to the lakes that are commonly available in the trade.

That said, cichlids that reside in midwater are not likely to have ever come across an aquatic plant. Most will eat them if they do see them

Plastic ones!
June is right, most cichlids end up destorying any plant that is put in the tank. I have seen MalawI setups with strong, broad leaf plants like anubias, vals, swords, but they're not native to the Lake.

June suggested Riccia Fluitans, just a heads up, it's hard to find here in Aus. I've only seen it once, and bought it straight away

I have been researching the exact species I have and they would have come across some plants in the wild you can see my research if you look through my profile I can't link as I'm using my mobile I'm going with the habitat that some specimens are found in by the base of the rockwall near the sandbeds and breeding plantations

Ill look up the plants thankyou so much are they 100% native too the rift lakes

I have no idea to be honest (haven't researched africans). However, don't be surprised if you can't find certain plants here. Australian Customs is very sensitive about what they let in to the country in the way of anything living. It's frustrating, but I guess it keeps us all safe.
