hi was wondering if anyone would know why my ph is 9.5 in my 55 gallon cichlid tank ? Tap water reads 7.5

What is the substrate? Substrates can have an effected on pH.

Sometimes the pH will change a day or two after letting the freshly drawn water age. Chemistry can explain why, but chemistry isn't my best area ;) I suggest you test the tap water again after letting it set out for a couple days.

Would need a few more details - Demeter might well have your answer already.

pH, KH and GH are woven together and have a distinct relationship. Would you happen to know your KH and GH values?

For sure let the tap water sit out - you can also put a bubbler on it to see the effect of outgassing, or even shake the daylights out of it for a faster (albeit less precise) result.

What else do you have in your tank? Cichlids spell rocks for me - do you have a lot and do you know what they are?
