PetCo vs. PetSmart? Which is better?

In my area (San Diego), Petco is far better, with my closest location sporting a huge aquatics section with RODI water, live rock, and several difficult to find species. I used to have three local Petcos like this, but two are being remodeled and not selling any live animals anymore. I’ve heard this is happening to a lot of locations.

I'm in Augusta now. Ive only been in there a couple times as its like over an hour to get there and our local Petco is so awesome.

I loved it for a year or two then they ruined my 210 gallon aquarium I bought from them

So nothing up where you are other than Petco? I have been trying to find an LFS somewhere in the same state as me. Lol

I've only been to Petco, and since it's the only place that sells fish and supplies within 75 miles, they've got my vote.. Actually, it's pretty good. They're MTS enablers and I've never had a problem with their equipment, fish, or employees.

Whenever I take a trip to the US, I always take a look at Petco. Their fish are well-kept and their betta selection is always high quality & superior compared to Petsmart. So, I for sure like Petco. Every Petsmart I’ve been too, even in Canada (the U.S one was yikes.) Has always been nasty, and or fish ill while employees know absolutely nothing. Petco employees seem to be more experienced.

The prices at Petco are also way better than Petsmart prices. I prefer Petco. I really wish they had one in Canada, I can never find the right betta I’m looking for but when I always go to Petco they always have stunning fish and betta’s I’d kill to have.

Last but not least every time I buy fish from Petsmart, no matter what location even the brand new locations, they always have a tendency to be sick for some odd reason.

That sucks.

We have a Petco on one side of the highway, Petsmart on the other. Theyre literally a mile apart at the most. We do have a Pet Life another half mile down the street, but that place is a hole and they have like 5 tanks with fish and they always look terrible, their supply of live plants it null and void. I was in there just the other day actually because its next to the Halloween store and my son wanted to go in. I go in once every year or two and its never different. Other than that, just WalMart. They do have a few tanks of fish, and some supplies, but the Petco here is so awesome there's no need to go into WalMart. And I avoid that place like the plague. lol

Lol Petco is my best option now and that’s by the Maine Mall. I have plenty of fish and the ones I have bought recently have been from Mcasella on here and she is awesome

I rarely use either. But petsmart will meet any online price. Just show them the price and they will meet it. A salesperson told me this last time I was there. They don’t advertise this but they do it. Even there online prices are cheaper than there store prices.

It’s the same with Petco. They had an online sale on tank stands, but not in store. I showed them the sale price and the person matched it for me at the register.

And for those who don’t have a Petco nearby, I asked a Petland employee about Petco’s dollar-per-gallon sale, and the guy said they’ll match it.
