Petco sale Betta tank

does anybody know if Petco's one dollar per gallon sale applies to kits. I am thinking about getting a minibow 2.5 for a betta. Although my sister is going to college and probably not taking her 5 gallon I was just wondering. Also what would be the cheapest set up to buy (individual or kit) for a Betta that t would house it comfortably ( maybe I five gallons?)

It's only for Aqueon glass tanks unfortunately. It starts at 10 gallon and goes up through 55g. If you want a cheap tank look into the glofish starter kits. They're made for glofish but work just as well with other fish.

I just wanted to make sure that I didn't make a useless run to petco! A minimum for a Betta is 2.5 gallons right? I am still stocking my 20 gallon but I though I would give a try at bettas. Hopefully if I do get a tank my Betta keeping skills aren't as bad as my childhood ones. *shivers* would this tank work?

It really doesn't show much. You want a nice filter that isn't too powerful and you'll need a heater to fit. I like my teeny black submersible heater from national geographic. Its preset to 80F.

Why not just do a 10 gallon since theyre so cheap at petco? I always suggest 5 gallon or larger for a betta. Especially if the kit doesn't have what you need. Maybe look into a 5 gallon or 10 gallon and a sponge filter or a small HOB. Also make sure you get a sponge prefilter so the bettas fins don't get caught. Also ONLY do silk fake plants or live plants. Any sharp decorations can cause bettas fins to rip and tear. I suggest maybe 3 to 5 silk plants and 1-3 marimo moss balls

Get a 10 gallon at petco for 10 bucks and get an aquaclear 20 hob filter, they are the best hob filters for bettas cuz of the adjustable flows... You can set it very low

You can always get a starter kit but the filters are way too strong for bettas. In turn, you are going to spend more getting a new filter and be stuck with 2

I plan to try my hand at making a DIY filter at some point. Was going to try the moving bed filter (which I think this one is) so I deliberately bought an expensive brand of bottled water, just for the fancy bottle

It's sitting in my fish stuff drawer awaiting the day when I get around to it!

Oh, and I'm with tokiodreamy's suggestion to just get a 10g. They're often cheaper than smaller tanks just because it's a very popular size and they make and sell a lot of them. Then buy an air pump to drive either a sponge filter (cheap) or one of those homemade filters, get a heater, and you're (almost) all set!

ok, I just don't have the space for a ten gallon, I need something to go in the empty space next to my ten gallon. I think I am just going to wait for my sisters 5 gallon. (I will have to give away her fish though, its so badly overstocked that you won't want to know, unless you do.)

5 gallons is good! And yes, please let us know what's in the tank! We love horror stories

Oh. Well, you can keep the ghost shrimp with your betta!

Yep! If they survive, I might move them to my twenty gallon since I am planning on getting some anyways!
