Petco - Oscar With One Eye

Ok, I went into petco to browse and saw a 2" albino Oscar missing an eye. It looked like it healed over but I was annoyed and I left that moment. I feel so bad that I don't have anything to help him. I did consider putting him in my 75 gallon but he'd outgrow it and I don't know what I would do with him. I am never buying from that store. Filthy tanks and dead fish everywhere. I don't know whether to be mad or sad.... Sorry for the rant.

All depends on the store management and employees from my experience. Sorry the one near you isn't good It is possible, though, that he was missing the eye when they got him.

On the South Shore of MA we have stores run well with clean tanks and hardly any dieoffs ever.

I have a ton near me so I have plenty others to go to. The fact they had a ton of dead fish and badly kept tanks was enough to make me not buy from there but the Oscar threw me over the edge.

It's not necessarily Petco's fault. He could have lost his eye at the breeding facility or during shipment.

I am aware of that, but I still don't like it. It's really sad. I would've brought him home if I had room for him.

Accidents happen - hopefully it wasn't from negligence! And good thing that fish can do very well without their eyes - it's not as traumatic for them as it is for people.

The poor baby! Hopefully he lost the eye before they got him, it is possible. Can't say I'd be happy seeing that though.

Hopefully someone who can provide for him picks him up.

I'm halfway in between 2 petsmart locations. One has less selection and the tanks are dirty, have dead fish and most fish are in the wrong spot. The other one is very clean, has a good selection, and for the most part the employees know what they're talking about

It's the same with me. I've made very good friends with the fish person at one petco and she is VERY knowledgeable about fish and cares deeply for them.

Oscars like to shred each other in the shipping bags. So do the kribensis. I've never gotten a shipment where the majority of them didn't have ripped up fins. A missing eye isn't usually something that requires the fish to be euthanized, so I guess my question is what would your solution be? Because if he were healthy, he'd be in my display tank and I'd hope someone would fall in love with his one eyed self and give him a good forever home. There are plenty of people who have a soft spot for fish with cosmetic imperfections.
