Funny Pesky Percy Pleco Proofing The Aquarium

Now most here have heard about my pesky Pleco called Percy......he is the class clown but without actually being a Clown Pleco

I have now been forced to Pesky Percy Pleco proof the aquarium that he lives in....

His first trick was unsticking the thermometer and batting it along the aquarium with his tail, chasing it and hitting back to its starting point. Wasn't too annoying til he knackered four of them

When he got fed up of playing tail ball with the thermometer he decided that the plants, wood and swim-throughs needed to be redesigned.....his working hours are from around 2300 til around 0500....and he is definitely NOT quiet when doing is grand redesigning....I wake each morning to a new landscape....he is especially partial to playing tail ball with the moss balls, to the extent that he managed to trap 3 of the Cory inside a swim-through by blocking all entry ways with moss balls

Then when I installed a new CF2 internal filter, his little eyes lit up, his brain could clearly be heard thinking what naughtiness could be mustered...new games to invent and play

First off, he decided that huggling the outer casing was awesome...the lightly throbbing case sent him off to sleep but then he got bored with that idea

So then he decided to hug the filter from underneath and belly dance......that was OK until he pulled the casing bottom section off and exposed the impeller So I had to superglue the bootom of the casing back on....they are not designed to handle a pesky Pleco playing silly B's with it and since I prefer not to have minced Neon Tetra, the superglue was the last resort....

Having his filter case glued together really ticked him off....so then he hugged and tugged the filter til its slid all the way down the side of the aquarium....then looked at me as if to say "neh neh neh"

My response to this act of total petulance was to attach the entire filter to the top of the aquarium with cable ties so now no matter how hard he tugs or hugs it will not drop down the side.....he isn't happy with that or the fact I cable tied the heater in place too - he liked to swim tween the heater and the glass and pull it off its mounts

So after proofing the aquarium against Pesky Percy Pleco, I finally thought he could not do anything else....

I was wrong

The filter has a flap top that is easy to open so that media changes can be done without getting your hands wet. He has learnt how to stick his nose up and under the flap and then drop it closed.......which he proceeds to do as soon as the house lights go off at night.....

"click....click....click...click..."

"Percy leave that filter alone!!!"

....peace.....

"click.....click.....click....click..."

The worst part? He has taught the flippin' Cories to do it too!

If you don't already you really should be writing children's books. We elderly adults would love them too

Well that's so interestingly funny. I've never heard of a pleco with such a personality like that. One funny fish and intelligent at that. Maybe try and get some things that he can actually interact with, that won't hurt the tank system? Funny story.

He is currently taking on the Fluval carbon filled fake moss balls,,,,,tween him and the Cories its getting quite competative......Percy has some serious tail muscles developing and when he feels the Cories are beating him he lays claim to the ball by standing on his nose upside down and wedges it....much to the chagrin of the Cories who are trying with all their might to push the ball....in Percy's direction

As Common Pleco's go, Percy is way too intelligent for his own good

Lol, now I think I know what is happening to all my plants.

I have the hollowed out discus rocks (caves). I am always finding the strangest things inside them.

But it is mostly moss balls, moss on pieces of wire and potted plants inside them.

I was blaming the yo-yo loaches, but perhaps we have a Pleco at work. Lol
