Peppered cory catfish

Are they nocturnal? I notice they only are really active only late at night. And during the day are hiding most of the time in one of the decor things I have where its completly dark. But I thought I read somewhere that they are NOT nocturnal?

Most catfish are nocturnal, though they will adjust to a diurnal schedule.

mine sit around quite a bit, but I also noticed that with my peppered, they seem to be more active with larger groups as opposed to smaller ones.

Mine are kickin' around during the day but I've seen them moving around at night too. The peppereds are in my daughter's tank in her room which has a 4w nightlight right next to the tank. It's never totally dark and all the fish move around quite a bit at night.

So since mine are out a night, do I need a little light for them? I do have a small light I can have shine on the tank that won't be too bright.. The light is VERY dim.

No, their barbells are their eyes in the dark.

My Peppered Cory cats don't care if it's during the day or night. They act the same. Always actively looking for food everywhere. They only hide when they feel threatened.

Good morning,

I have moved your thread to the Catfish/Corydoras section of the forum.

Your Cory Cats will not need additional lighting at night. As JaySee mentioned their barbels become their eyes in the dark.

The tank needs day and night times just as we do.

Mine were Albinos and they seemed to be more active at night too. I always feed them when I turned the tank light out, it keeps the other fish from eating the cory's food.
