Penn Plax 700 or 1000?

I have a 40 gal tank, running an Aqua Clear 70, and I know it's slightly undersized. I was wondering if the 1000 would be overkill putting me at a total of 560 gal/hr. The 700 would put me at I believe 460 gal/hr. The cost difference isn't a factor, I just really want to do this right and it would give me a secondary filter incase one failed.

I think the 700 along with the AC70 is enough.

I believe the 700 would be enough, I was wondering if the 1000 would be too much. It's an extra 12 bucks, so just want to make sure that I wouldn't be overdoing it.

I heard sizing for canister filters are 4 to 5 times of the tank capacity, is this correct?

Yes, that's true about canisters. You can never over filtrate though, IMO.

Just picked up a 700 and am adding filter media. Seems bio rings should do the trick. What's the forum think?

Good price. Who supplied it?

Oh yeah. I gave a box of flu all predicted I used in my sAlt tank abt 15 yrs ago. Never throw something away if it might be useful 20 yrs down the road. Anyhow, is it possible it has picked up airborne contaminants and shouldn't be used

I got it at Petco, the manager said they do price matching, so I went to the register and showed the price on Amazon, and voila!

Good for you! Remember that you can never over filter only over flow however I believe with canisters you can't really over flow but with HOBs that is usually the case with bigger filters. I have a AC 110 and AC 50 on my 40 breeder.

Ok now as far as flow goes...are we talking about what's being pushed or pulled from the tank?

Push , I believe the cascade comes with a spray bar thus their won't be as much flow/current.
