Peculiar False Julii Cory Behavior

Howdy everyone! Long time reader, first time poster. As the title states, I've noticed a change in my corys behavior recently and wanted some opinions on it.

I have a dirted 10 gallon community tank with one male Betta, 5 false juliI corys, and 6 Harlequin Rasbora.

Now, everything was fine when it was just the betta(who is approximately 2 years old and very docile). Both species of fish lived in harmony and explored the tank with no reservations. The betta acted as a gracious king and let the corys go where they wanted, when they wanted. After the rasbora were introduced, the corys have turned to hiding more often than not.

I'm not concerned for the corys health or safety as I've observed them eating their fair share and there is no damage of any sort visible on any of the five.

I'm perplexed as to why their behavior would change so drastically after introducing the rasbora to the tank.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

Cories were used to the space provided, when adding another species you cut down on the area they could enjoy without running into another fish.
A longer tank with a few more of the cories would likely bring out the personality you are used to.

Sounds simple enough. Thankfully, I'll be moving soon and will be able to set up my 55. I plan on transferring over all the current occupants of the 10 and adding a few more in due time.

I appreciate the reply.

Hopefully it works for them, I know mine come out more in larger groups (harlies are a bit of a food bully so they may nip the cories when they do an air dash).

Man, are they ever food bullies. They feed like sharks that have caught the scent of blood. I make sure to feed some sinking pellets for the cories and have observed for a good half hour to make sure they're the ones eating them. The harlies tend to stay at mid tank and higher and I can't say I've ever seen them venture into the lower half of the tank, even in search of food.

I'll add more cories once the 55 is good and cycled. I'm anxious to get those quirky fish moving again. The tank bottom seems oddly lonely without them scooting around.

My most active group is a dozen aeneus cories (more albino than bronze), they are out and about like crazy and I expect them to act the same once the 60 gallon goes up.

That's awesome and that's exactly what I'm wanting for my juliis. They're fun fish to watch and I want them to feel secure enough to flit without hesitation.

I have a school of giant danios that make short work of everything I feed including sinking pellets.....even when I feed floating and sinking at the same time to give my Cories a little time. I found some "attaching tablets" by Sera called O-nips. You can get them on Amazon. They stick to the glass and will slowly break apart so fish can eat them. It took a couple feedings for them to figure it all out but they last long enough for your bottom feeders to finish the sinking food. I use them twice a week.
