Pearl Gourami Surprise in Community tank

Some weeks ago we added a male Pearl Gourami to the two females we allready had in our communitytank.

Having kept Pearls earlier I was surprised the male immediately started to build (a terrible designed) "bubblenest" in the corner of the tank. It never was a great construction but we now noticed FRYYYYY. Doubt they'll survive in there.

I probably will rehome them to another tank as soon as dad has lost interest.

The chances of survival in this tank aren't that great. 2 Spiny eals(which are predators for sure), Lemon Tetras etc...

Yeah I have a tank with only 11 Corydoras Panda waiting for new inhabitants. Only thing is it has no lid.

My pearl gourami tank doesn't either. I've only had one jump out, and that was at feeding time. I picked it up, put it back, and no harm done.

It is not about jumping. I've learned that specially fry need same air- as watertemperature.

...and the fry need the same humidity as the air will be too dry without a lid.

No it isn't Josh. This male has constantly being busy after adding. Bad contructor though.

Trichopodus species tend to build rather haphazard nests. Their eggs/fry float, so they apparently don't need a good bubblenest.

Pearl Gouramis always seem to spawn more easily when there are two females. Apparently one gets more possessive of the male, maybe even a bit jealous.

Sometime ago I moved 12 tiny fry to another tank and what happened now ???

There are two kinds of fry and I am pretty sure there are green neons involved.
Dad Pearl gourami seem to have guarded them as well and.protected them being eaten hahahaha.

Think the pics are a gourami youngster.
Maybe jinjerJOSH22 could confirm

I would like to see how those tetras progress. There are a couple of species known as "Green Neons", are these supposed to be Paracheirodon simulans? Because I know people who regularly spawn Cardinals in quantity, yet the little simulans has refused to breed for them. I did a google search, and while I see several generic descriptions of Neon/Cardinal breeding in articles about the Green Neon, I can find no first person claim of getting fry from this species. So, if you have succeeded, it would be important to the hobby to document this event!

I have a mixed group of Green Neons and Cardinals. Cause I thought it was the other way around I believed they should be Green neons. It is more plausible then they are Cardinals having been breeding in the communitytank nevertheless.

As said the male Gourami kept half the tank free from predators hahaha.

Pleasant surprises like this are one of the highlights of fishkeeping. Unpleasant ones, not so much.

Pretty sure these are tetras. Cardinals or green neons.
