But their water parameter requirements are way different then most tropical fish. They like higher temps In mid to low 80s, high ph of 8.0 or higher, and should not be in a community tank at all.yellow labs are peaceful, Acie's also

Gee, I must be doing something wrong. I have been keeping those species with other species of fish like barbs, tetras, gourami, red tails, firemouth etc. for about 20 yrs. As a matter of fact I have a 60 gal. tank going right now with that mix in it now. I even have a blue deso something in there now. I guess they're all going to die.But their water parameter requirements are way different then most tropical fish. African Cichlids NEED to be in a species only tank, they may do alright with some species of synodontis catfish, but cannot and should not be housed with any other types of cichlids or fish in general. They are aggressive towards most other fish.
Oh ok thanksGBR's don't school, they can be kept solitary.

What's a good mix of themActually they do shoal quite well. Mikrogeophagus just means minI geophagus, which is the largest genus of shoaling cichlids in the world.
