I have a 36 gallon tank that contains substraight, live plants, three cory cats, five tiger barbs, a young parrot cichlid, and an algae eater. My parrot cichlid was doing great the first couple of months. Now it's shy and seems to sleep on it's side a lot. I have not seen any aggression in the tank. I am worried that he/she may be sick.:(

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Good morning,

Some fish may very well sleep completely on their sides. I've had several Bloody Parrots over the years to do this. It scared me and I thought the fish was dead but it was just sleeping.

One even enjoyed sleeping in Java Moss:

As long as the fish has a healthy appetite, having regular bowel movements, swimming upright, has clear eyes and no visible signs of parasites/disease, I wouldn't worry too much at this point.

    Best wishes for your fish!
