Probably not, unless you have plans to upgrade in a year or two. Parrots are big, messy fish.

Good morning,

Are you referring to the Parrot Cichlid and not the Blood Red Parrot?

If so, then I will move the thread to the Cichlid section and out of the Hybrid section.

the one I was looking at was a blood parrot just a different color.

Good morning,

A true Bloody Parrot is orange as an adult. They may be born black or blackish/brown or even spotted but all of this will fade and the fish should be orange.

If you are seeing any other colors such as green, blue, purple, bright yellow, pink, these have all been dyed. The dye will fade in a couple of months and the fish will eventually turn orange. Please note: Dyed fish will more than likely have a shorter life span compared to ones that have not been dyed. So, I do not recommend purchasing dyed fish. Many find it to be very cruel process myself included. Speaking from experience too.

Before I joined Fish Lore, I had 3 dyed Bloody Parrots and they didn't live as long as my other fish have lived.

would a parrot chiclid (not the orange/red one) but a different variety be ok with tiger barbs, rainbow shark, and rams in a 55 gal.?

No, personally I don't think that would be a suitable tank size for a BP. If you rehomed the Ram you could try a different type of Cichlid like a Convict or a Firemouth.
