Parasites Question

I've had my barbs for 1 1/2 years, and kuhlis/sterbais for a year. I didn't QT the barbs since they were the first fish I got and had no problems. I QT'd the kuhlis/sterbais by waiting a month in the qt tank, and they didn't show any signs of disease. One of my barbs has some weird growth on his tail that's only on him, and noone else. It looks like something white is attached to his tail, maybe 1 mm in size. He's eating, and hasn't changed. My question is this: I'll be transferring the fish from a 75 gallon to a 20 gallon for a day or two until I move the 75 gallon to the new place, and was wondering if it was worth it to treat with PraziPro for a full week. A week should also be enough for an parasites in the tank to die off I'm assuming, or would I have to sterilize the tank too?

He's had the growth for over a month now. No change of behavior, and noone else has it either.

Can you post a picture? Maybe its an injury that's gone bad????? If its been there a month with no treatment, its probably unlikely its a parasite but more of an injury.

I have a few, it looks like a dot in the picture but it hangs off him like 1mm. Top barb, top of the tail

Its hard to tell from the picture - just the one barb, right? Is the area fuzzy or look like a worm sticking out or a piece of the flesh?
Barbs are notorious fin nippers so it might be that they were fighting. I would move to a QT tank - not sure about the treatment though - maybe someone else can chime in....

It doesn't look fuzzy or a worm hanging off. Looks like a piece of flesh if anything, but its on the tail, so I doubt it's flesh, when he turns to the side. No change of behavior, eats, schools. No idea what it is, and noone else is showing any symptoms for me to act on.

Sounds like a wound then - the best thing to do is to keep up on the frequent water changes.
I'm no expert but when I had barbs, they were constantly picking on one from the 10 that I had - the one ended up shy and by himself most of the time until he died after 2 years. Its hard to tell what goes on after the lights go out.

I originally had 8 in the beginning, and he died a few weeks after I got him. Found him in the intake of the filter barely able to stay afloat. By the time I transferred him to another tank, he died =/. Hopefully someone else chimes in though.

I hope you find your answer. Tiger barbs are very hardy fish

After reading every available article, I found a pretty reliable one saying that barbs are one of the fish that are not affected by lympho " Lymphocystis does not affect less advanced orders, including catfish (Order Siluriformes), cyprinids (such as goldfish, koi, barbs, or danios; Family Cyprinidae) or salmonids (Family Salmonidae). " Pretty interesting to say the least. Link to those interested: FA181/FA181: Lymphocystis Disease in Fish
