I have maybe 12 ghost shrimp in my 55 long just being good ole bottom feeders and one has a long tubular thing inside it, is it just organs or is it a parasite? Cause it totally looks like a tape worm lol (gross). If it is a parasite, sorry shrimpy, YOU'RE TOTES GONNA GO. Anyway, please lmk if you know what that is! Thank you!

Probably a horsehair worm, if you euthanize it, please do so humanely and don't flush it. The parasites can end up in the local waterways. Either clove oil, or a quick squish, then in the garbage

I wasn't even contemplating flushing it, I honestly wasn't sure what do it with it, but flushing actually didn't come to mind. Is the horsehair worm contagious?

I looked it up and I've seen videos of these guys coming out of insects in the past and omg! I hated those videos, ugh, I have definitely learned something new! I'm going to humanely rid my little shrimpy and always look out for shrimp infected with these guys. Thank you. YouTube video below is one I found that taught me a thing or two about it.

I'm not sure, sorry, don't know a whole lot about them.
Not saying you were going to flush it, but a lot of people do, and just personally we've had issues with aquarium things getting flushed and messing up local waterways. Had to shut down a huge pont and trout hatchery for 4 years cuz of one little contaminant

I could imagine a lot of people do flush their critters down the drain, and that totally sucks! Wow! I found another shrimp in my tank that has the worm, not sure if it always had it or if it is making its rounds in my tank

Dang, I'm sorry. Maybe fenbendazole? (Dog dewormer), but it'll kill any snails

I have a few snails, I'll have to skip that. Besides I get 10 ghost shrimp for less than $2 at my pet store so it's not a huge loss. Now if I had amano shrimp or cherry shrimp I'd be super concerned cause those guys are expensive locally
