Paranoid betta mom (is this behavior normal?)

First betta fish so I’m paranoid he’s dying every time he does anything, of course. Is it normal for them to sort’ve “attack” the glass? There’s nothing outside of his tank and he’s not flaring but it reminds me of angry glass surfing. He’s only been in the tank two days. He doesn’t flare at me or attack my nerites, so he doesn’t seem aggressive. Also, is it normal for them to rest frequently? He’ll swim around and then all of a sudden full STOP. sometimes mid-swim. Once he completely stopped moving when he was vertical because he was swimming up and just STOPPED. He also will just float at the top for a few minutes periodically. I’ve never had a fish that rests so frequently so it’s making me nervous.

The glass attacking should subside after they get used to tank. Unless they are running from other fish? Is betta alone?

As far as resting. Yes betta will lay on stuff and in very odd positions and are fine. The love resting in live plants

He’s alone just the snails to keep him company. Good to know the weird resting is normal! Very strange haha.

I use deli lids to baffle bubbles from sponge filters. Look at betta napping w part of body out of water. Then last pic was like. Ugh your bothering my nap. Lol

He’s beautiful! I would’ve freaked out if I saw my boy half out of the water lol!
My other blue one gets in oddest spots on plants. Still freaks me out sometimes.

What kind of tail do you think mine is? I checked in the sticky thread and I was thinking delta?

He’s got some fin rot I think on the bottom of his dorsal fin but it doesn’t look bad I’m sure it’ll heal soon.

I'm not expert on betta. I just have a couple but know almost nothing spectacular about betta. Lol

I am not good at identifying. Several different tail types also have slightly different things with their fins to help ones that are good at identifying them. I usually have to go with whatever the cup says!

The cup just said “copper” and I’ve never heard of that for a tail type but who knows. He was freakin $20 though because he was “special”. No idea how, I picked him cuz he was the ugliest in the corner and I thought he’d never get adopted lol! Compared to the flares, reds and oranges and such, he’s not as beautiful. I was shocked when they rang him up haha.

My understanding is "Copper" just refers to the color in this case. Haven't looked enough at them to notice if they have different tail types or what.

i have my first betta and am a new fish mom. i panicked the other day in one of my posts - over him - his behavior. never thought a "fish" would act this way!! he's more like a water puppy. not only did he make eye contact with me at the store, he did it even when i walked away and came back. he follows me around when i walk past his tank too. i am very attached to this little guy. i picked him for that reason, plus it didn't hurt that he was the palest one and I was sure he'd be in that **** cup forever. i shouldn't have gotten him yet (tank isn't cycled yet) but someone told me the water was fine to add fish, not. but that's okay. half the time I can't tell what true color the water is on these tests anyway. I am going to test again today to see what it says. this is week 4. thank the goddess's and gods for this site!! i was so panicked. now i'm a bit calmer. i wish the **** thing would be good. okay, gonna go test now. good luck with your guy. mine's named Jerry. not any reason other than my grandson thinks that's a typical fish name. ;-)

How funny haha, I had a 20 gal (see my profile) but sold it because I was stressed hiding it from the landlord. I’ve never had a betta. Guppies, platys, honey gouramis, tetras, harlequin rasboras.... the betta is by far the weirdest fish I’ve ever had. What strange behaviors! I used a teeny piece of the cycled 20 gal for him so it was an instant cycle, much easier than cycling a tank ;P i haven’t named him yet. I was thinking Copper as a name actually, how original right haha. But I’ll wait to see if he survives the month before naming. Bettas are definitely easy to get attached to.

OH MY GOD this dumb fish is going to be the end of me. I hadn’t seen him for a while so I went and checked and I see a little tiny edge of a fin sticking out from BEHIND THE FILTER, which is suction cupped to the wall and doesn’t even have a cm of space between it and the wall. Gosh, he’s so dumb.

No, because when I stuck a finger in to make sure he was okay, he squirmed but couldn’t get out. Most definitely stuck. There isn’t even a cm of space behind it, I swear. I pulled it a bit from the wall and he came out. He’s asleep in his floating plants now, hopefully smart enough to not go back there again.
