Panda and the Angels of Doom

Sorry for the title, couldn't resist ;D Dubbed them that when a friend of mine said they'd rip each other to shreds. Apparently someone had a bad experience!

I got my Angelfish this week!! I got three Black Marbles and one Koi. I wanted some silver but they were a lot bigger than the Marbles so I picked up the Koi instead. I love them though They're about the size of a quarter not including the fins.

As far as the "Panda" thing goes, I felt sorry for this lone Panda Cory that was in the tank with the bigger angels. He was so cute (and super tiny!) and I knew I'd be getting some other Cories after the angels settled in so I went ahead and grabbed him too Yeah 5 fish all at once, I know... I'll be doing diligent tests and water changes over the next few weeks.

I'm still trying to get some pictures... my camera does not want to cooperate, and neither do the fish! They are really shy and skittish. I can totally understand that as they were in the same tank as Green Tiger Barbs and some 4 inch Pangasius catfish o), that were going crazy and really stressing them out, on top of all the kids that kept poking the glass and such. Why?? Poor angels

I've been having trouble getting them to eat flakes, any suggestions on some other food I could get for them (that is relatively inexpensive)? Or should I just give them some time and see if they start eating? They have snagged some sinking shrimp pellets I bought for the Cory and a few flakes but that's it.

Feed them some frozen bloodworms or brine shrimp. Or you can supplement their food with garlic - look up Garlic + fish food and you might see immediate results.

Give them a little time to get used to their new surroundings. And you are probably not feeding them the stuff they were used to getting. I feed mine pellets and it took them a couple of days to get used to the different food. Don't worry, once they get used to their new food and surroundings they will become the "piggies of doom". Mine are such pigs.

Thanks! Yeah I read that they were quite the pigs ;D LOL!! I figured it would just take them a bit of time to get used to things.

They are quite funny, the marbles group together everywhere but the Koi tends to hang with the guppy and platy! And those two are intrigued by their new Cory neighbor from the looks of it

I am completely in love with them already, they are so delicate and graceful Ah... I have an empty 30 gallon available... and I think I'm going to become obsessed with them

All is well with the Piggies of Doom and Panda ;D They surprised me when I came to test the water today, they were swimming back and forth and as soon as the first test tube hit the water they went crazy and were searching everywhere for food! They ate well, and are still picking up the scraps of flakes that drifted to the bottom... guess Panda is going to need some more shrimp pellets tonight after lights out

Today I woke up and noticed that the Koi was swimming in erratic circles and loops. For those of you who've read kinezumi's thread (), it is doing the exact same thing as the angel in the video. Now it's sort of just floating around with the current... my quarantine is not ready ATM (recently used for a guppy and hasn't been emptied yet) but I think it's too late to do anything... He looks as if he's dying now. If he doesn't die on his own, soon I will probably euthanize him.

Well the Koi passed yesterday evening. RIP Zoom

The other fish are doing great, no signs of illness in any of them, and everyone is eating great -- maybe a little too much too

So sorry about Zoom. Angelfish can be touchy.

So if anyone ever read my thread , I lost two more angels. The one left is doing well though, active, eating very very well rolleyes and seems to have become buddies with the platy and guppy. It's quite funny to see the three together, they look so odd but seem really happy together ;D

I think I'll keep the last Marble one his/her own for now, I may get a second angel in the future though. For now I'm going to get four more Cories for Panda, and perhaps add a school of tetras, once I find some ones I like that aren't fin nippers LOL

Do you have an idea why you lost them? Even though I don't have any I love them and have an inquiring mind.

I woke up this morning to find the last marble dead. No clue why. He/she was fine yesterday, ate and was swimming around. I kind of expected it somehow but I was still kind of sad.

I think I'm done with Angels for now I love them but I'd hate to get more and it turn out this way again. No clue why this one and the first one died, water parameters are good and everyone was getting their share of food. Temp is at 80F as Panda had a bit of ich when I first got the gang home (I'm slowly turning it down, it was at 85 I believe) but other than that I'm clueless.

It seemed like forever before I finally got the angelfish I have now. I got several from Petsmart and they died. I got some from another LFS and they died. Then I tried a 3rd store and they also died. To this day I have no idea why. Everybody else was doing fine. I was ready to give up until I found this little feed store that had fish tanks in the back. Today I have 8 beautiful healthy angelfish. Don't give up right away. Just keep looking and you will find some. And as a side note, the pH in my water is 7.8 - 8 so maybe it was just a matter of getting some from the same hardness of water that I had.

Southern IL, I bet your tap water is hard. Wild angles are coming out of soft water, so it could be as simple as your angles are not used to the hard water. Look around for Angles that have been breed locally in your local water conditions.

Wild Angels are not common in most fish stores. I highly doubt that would be the cause. I think it has more to do with the way fish are bred en mass now adays. I bought these guys from a store that breeds their own Angels. 100% survival rate. Great little buggers

Here in Wisconsin we get most of our fish in the lfs out of Chicago, and yes they are bringing in wild Angles here. So much so that the best of the local fish stores are looking for breeders who can consistantly produce angles in our local water.

The big chain stores do not commonly stock wild Angels.
