Paludarium Build!

Hi!
I have a random 5 gallon tank and I'm really liking the idea of a paludarium. It would be about 50/50 water and land. The filter will create a waterfall effect on the land. I plan to put in an african dwarf frog however I am not sure what to put on the land... I have looked into fiddler crabs but I don't really want it to be brackish. Any stocking suggestions would be appreciated!
Also I know african dwarf frogs are aquatic full I just didn't know where else to post this!

Not much can go in a 5 gallon tank...

Edit:
You could just do plants, it'd look really nice! Maybe a few smaller shrimp could go in the water or you could get a red clawed crab, but they need bigger tanks.

If you're not set on doing both water and land, you could get a praying mantis pet. They're really cool and not hard to care for from what I hear.

Another great option are glass snails. I had a whole colony in a 1 gallon tank. I collectively named them Squidgy because I couldn't tell them apart. They're mostly terrestrial, but like having water around. They're omnivorous and cannibalistic, so that's kinda a fun fact and they keep their numbers in check. I just threw them table scraps every couple days and they thrived.

Another cool idea is isopods (rolly-pollys). There are terrestrial one's and aquatic ones. Both have gills and require damp to full water conditions. There are different colored ones. Blue, green, pepper mint...
I'm thinking about getting some for a vivorium

Along the lines of isopods, triops are cool too!

Would the frog be ok?

Probably not. If it's half water then that means the frog will have less than 2.5 gallons. Seeing as how the land sections will be 'in' the tank that means there will only be around a gallon of water. I mean, you could put some pretty shrimp in there, but that's it. Or a small species of froglet for land and water.

Thanks for all those suggestions! I didn't see them before posting
I really appreciate it!

Depends where you're located. Some frogs aren't legal in certain areas.

If you want to co-hab species, you have to do a lot of research. The easiest way to do it is to find species that already live together in the wild. You have to make sure they can live in the same environment, and not at an extream (ie. A betta can live in 65-85°f water, but is happiest at 80°. The extreams would be 65 and 85°)

Honestly, of your set on an adf paludarium, you should spend the $10 to get a 10 gallon tank, or even a 15 or 20 gallon tank. As big of a tank as you can get. 5 gallon is just too small for big, impressive dreams

African dwarf frogs need a 5 gallon to themselves. Also they are sociable so shouldnt be kept alone.

I want to understand how you plan on setting this up. A paludarium isn’t really 50/50 land/water. The bottom of the tank is traditionally water whereas the top level of the tank is full of branches and plants for aboreal type species (species that climb & live in the plants/trees). There really is no “land.” Paludariums are more for things like green tree pythons, and they’re usually vertical tanks, not horizontal.

A 5 gallon tank isn’t going to offer much space for you to be able to split it either way (vertical or horizontal). A 5 gallon is only 16 inches long, so you’d have 8 inches land and 8 inches of water - the water side would end up being less than a gallon because even though you’re splitting the tank in half, you can’t fill it to the top, so that limits what you can have in the water.

If you could possibly get a 10 gallon you could maybe do some vampire crabs, they’re pretty cool. But I don’t see many options, if any, for a 5 gallon tank.

Ooohh interesting! I didn't know that!

Potato head Dart frogs would be cool! I don't know what their minimum tank size needs are, so you'll have to look into that.

I wonder if they could live with adf. That might be interesting if their environmental needs matched up. I know dart frogs that have been captive bred and wild caught frogs that have been captive for a few years have lost their toxicity because they get it from either a plant or a beetle in their native environment.
