Pairing German Rams 18 gallon

I am planning on getting Rams (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) I'm not sure of its going to be German Blue Rams, Gold Rams or Electric Blue Rams but I'll pick that after as they are just colour variants. I'm also getting a 15 gallon which I know the bigger the better but this Is all I can accommodate at the moment, they won't be sharing the tank with anything else and it'll be a planted tank.

With the information I gathered from other members and from online, I should only keep one pair which is ok with me.
But my question is how do I go about it, I do not have the ability to buy a pair so I will have to buy quite young ones and because of the size of the thank I can't buy around 5 and see who pairs off, I've heard that if I buy what I'm pretty sure is a male and female and put them in a tank when they're not already paired there will be a lot of fighting and they won't pair.

What's the thought? Any help I appreciate and I'll listen.

 

Buy a confirmed m/f from a breeder if you can not source them yourself.
Electric was always the most beautiful and gentle of the colors IMO.
Blacks seem to be great parents .

Thank you I'll have a look and see if they ship to me because most don't. I do love the electric blues
Sadly they do not ship to me, everywhere I've looked no where ships and the aquariums don't stock breeding pairs, this is where I'm stuck.

Ask around if any stores can get rams from Shahar Danziger of Danziger Discus [ in Israel ] or Marco who is in S. Africa .

I think one store a couple of hours away gets them from Danziger Discus but I don't think they do pairs. Am I best just getting something I can buy 5 or so of? I do love rams but I'm not sure what I can do

They will be fine growing out , and even possibly during pairing.
I bred my rams in 5g tanks .They don't need a lot of space it is their ego/attitude that needs the room !
The right group may actually co exist .
I kept 8 breeding pairs in a 40b for over a year .

Ok thank you I'll try that, if they don't get along I'll see if they take some of them back, but knowing me I'll probably save up and buy another tank. Thabk you for your responses
