Painting Room, 2nd Temp Tank?

HI all,

I have a 20 gallon tank in dining room, sitting on a credenza. We’re painting the room so the credenza and tank have to move.

Coincidentally, I have an empty 55 gallon tank and stand recently bought off CL. My thought is to migrate the water, filter, heater and fish from the 29 gallon to the 55 gallon for about 4 hours while painting, then move fish, etc back to the 29g.

I spent the morning cleaning the CL tank with garden hose, then H20+vinegar to get it clean enough for this temporary move.

Before I pull the trigger, any last words from the forum on this?

You should try to put the water before they get there and make sure the conditions are as similar as possible. That way it reduces the amount of stress the fish go through.

Any particular reason why you’re moving them back? Your fish will be fine in a bucket for 4 hours. Maintain temp and toss an air stone in there. Just seems like a lot of extra work.

Wrap the tank that's on the cradenza with a trash bag or plastic wrap tightly. Do your painting unwrap and carry on with your next build. Just be sure everything is super tight and no little openings at all.

Reporting back on this. I could’ve moved the fish into a 2 gallon bucket for a few hours and they’d have been ok, yes. Main reason why I wanted to move water + fish is that I didn’t want to lose my harmonious water quality from my 20 gallon tank.

I’m a beginner, and it took me a long time and a few lost fish to get the water quality right and sticking size correct. I had to empty the tank to move it, and I didn’t want to start all over.
